Sisters Janet(Jim) and Patricia. Sister in laws Arlene, Karen, Edna (Gilbert) and brother in law Ronnie (Carmen) and her “adopted sister” Katherine. She was also an aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Mom was born on July 4 th , 1955 in Winnipeg, Mb. She grew up in the Wolesley area with her mom, dad and four brothers and sisters. She attended Mulvey School where she was a patrol captain and participated as a Brownie (with many pins). She was like a second mom to her brothers and sisters seeing how her dad passed away when they were very young and her mom had to work hard to take care of them all. This followed through their later lives and she was always fondly looked at as somewhat of a matriarch of the family.
She attended Gordon Bell for one year before the family moved into the East Kildonan area. It was when she started school at Morse Place that she met and fell in love with Dave Wensel. They were high school sweethearts and later married and had their children, Troy and Tracey. She was a stay at home for many years devoting her self to her children and family. She volunteered at the school and the community club that her children were a part of always a supportive and loving mom.
She began working at Concordia Hospital in the Central Supplies Dept. and was there for over five years she then switched careers and went to work at RETSD as a custodial aide. She loved the freedom of weekends off and the ability to enjoy the spring, summer and Christmas holidays with her family and friends. Mom was a hard worker and took pride in everything she did, she loved her job and especially the people. She worked at Valley Gardens Middle School for over 25 years until she had to retire due to her illness. She enjoyed riding her bike everywhere, gardening and working in the yard picking weeds, reading, watching her weekly shows and her hockey and football teams on TV. She loved dancing, travelling, shopping and experiencing new things for the first time.
Many years after her marriage ended she met and fell in love with Rikk. They enjoyed many excursions travelling to hot destinations together over the years. One of their favourite trips was to Vegas at the Mirage Hotel. It was so special to them that it became the place where they would marry. Mom loved spending time with family and friends celebrating special occasions or just to hang out on a deck or patio with a cold Corona in hand listening to music.
Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she was always there to spoil them and love them up in every way. Anyone that knew her knew about her love for animals especially her furbabies Bailey, JD and Bella. This is what influenced her to devote time volunteering at the Humane Society.
Mom was the most courageous, brave and graceful soul and this last chapter of her life proved it. She loved and she was loved.
A special thank-you to Anita and the palliative team for the compassion and dignity you provided.
