Walter Meyer

January 5, 1944 - July 11, 2024

Our father, grandfather, and husband Walter Meyer passed away peacefully on July 11, 2024.

Born on January 5, 1944, in Krakow, Poland, Walter led the life of a hard-working family man, ever striving to provide the best life for his wife, sons, Keith and Michael, and to his Grandchildren, James, Alora, and Mia. Beside him for over 52 years stood his wife, Lorna, with who he shared their unconditional love for one another.

Always learning, teaching, or lecturing the kids on how to safely use power tools, Walter had an unyielding passion for sharing knowledge and wisdom. Walter was a natural born bookworm and has probably read most of the Internet. You could always find him digging through the latest political or historical fiction novel or article. His love and enthusiasm for reading was passed down to all his sons and grandchildren.

A business owner for over 30 years, Walter built his dental supply company from the ground up in 1984 until his retirement in 2000 but stayed on as a director and his company continues to thrive to this day.

Walter and Lorna shared a love for music and dancing and would ‘boogaloo’ with the best of them. Walter always appreciated the balance that Lorna brought to his life and loved that she would rough it out at the lake in remote conditions and work on their many construction projects together.

Walter was the cook of the family. After starting his business and working from home, he agreed to provide a home cooked meal to Lorna every day. He moved through the Joy of Cooking from start to finish. His sons never knew what would be on the table when they came home from school, but over the years he became an amazing cook.

Walter’s ashes will be brought to the place he loved most, the family cottage on Crow Lake, Ontario. His memory will live on amongst the apple, pine, and mountain ash trees he planted, nurtured, and protected for over 35 years.

We are so grateful to have had lived alongside Walter for so many years, and will deeply miss his irreplaceable presence in our lives. We will forever cherish the lessons, jokes, memories, and love he so graciously shared with us.

The family would like to thank the Grace Hospital staff for their compassionate care and kindness. If you would like to make a donation in Walter’s memory, please make it out to the Grace Hospital Foundation.
