Dad is also survived by his siblings Arthur Stinson, Evelyn (Bill) Kostiuk and Wayne (Glenda) Stinson, and brother in law Bruce Kerr, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.

Dad was predeceased by his Love and faithful wife of 65 years, Vivian Bernice, as well as his loving parents Walter and Gladys Stinson. He was also predeceased by his older sister Norma, and numerous in-laws and other family members. What a glad reunion they are having!

Dad was born on the family farm near Colgate, SK on September 26, 1930. He lived and worked on the farm throughout his youth and as a young adult. After grade 12, he spent a couple years teaching in local small-town schoolhouses. Dad often told how the students would be “quick to finish” their schoolwork so dad could play the guitar and the students could join him in a sing-along to end each school day.

Dad met mom at a church camp in North Battleford, Saskatchewan the summer of 1956. After a seven-month courtship, they were engaged and married July 27, 1957. After their first year of marriage, dad decided to take a different career path from farming and pursue his love of carpentry and construction. Dad was very creative and loved to draft house plans. He obtained his certificate as a Journeyman Carpenter as well as a teaching certificate, and built many houses and duplexes in Regina, including our family home on Lacon Street.

In 1973 dad was hired by CMHC where he worked in various positions for the next 17 years. He retired from his last position as the Program Manager for Social Housing, in 1990.

After dad’s retirement at age 62, mom and dad decided it was time to do some traveling and they soon adopted the nicknames “Seemore and Dolittle”!

Dad’s love of drafting and building was put to use again when they moved to Cranbrook BC. With the help of friends and family, he built a beautiful new home, nestled into the hill with a breathtaking view of the mountains. Many wonderful memories were made in that home! Of course, dad always had his children’s homes to fix-up or “redesign”, and he loved to build things for the grandkids as well – wooden toys, play houses, and play tables just to name a few. There was always something to build to keep him busy.

In 2002 mom and dad moved from Cranbrook to Calgary. Once again, they enjoyed making memories with family and friends. Then in 2016 they made one last move to Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Dad had a full, healthy, happy life of 93 years. We will always remember his quick wit and silly jokes that were sure to bring uproarious laughter. He also had a serious side, demonstrated by his deep love for others, especially the young people! Dad had many “adopted” children who to this day would still call him “pops” or refer to him as their “second dad”. Dad was very musical. He loved to sing and played both the guitar and piano by ear. Dad was blessed to find a wife who also shared this love of music. Together, when invited to celebrations, they would often come with a song or poem they had written just for that event!

Dad also loved playing sports, of which baseball and curling were his favorites.

Lastly, and most importantly, Dad had a deep love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a faithful elder in both Regina and Cranbrook assemblies. Although not a long winded preacher, God used him to bless many with his leadership in song and gentle words of encouragement and wisdom.

Dad, we thank you for the wonderful life you provided for our family. Our memories are unforgettable and deeply treasured. Your earthly journey is complete. May your spirit rest in the loving arms of our Lord and savior. Until we meet again, may we honor your life well lived, with unconditional love and compassion for all people.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the wonderful compassionate Staff of Weinburg 1, Simkin Care Home who so lovingly and graciously cared for Dad over the 21 months he was in their home. You were a blessing to dad and to our family.
