Anne Doreen Wilson

( nee Yuill )

May 14, 1933 - February 2, 2024

Passed on February 02 2024, at Winnipeg, at age 90. Anne was beloved mother to Julia (Justin Abel) of Whistler and Morag (Peter Graham) of Winnipeg; dear Nana to Ewan; sister to Barbara (Fox) and aunt to Nicola (Claude Letizia) of Perth Australia. Anne was pre-deceased by her husband Strathearn (“Strath”); cherished daughter Sheena (“Smiley”); brother David; parents Madge and Dr. Burton Yuill and nephews Graham and Roger.

Born in Belleoram Newfoundland, Anne grew up in England−moving often during the WWII bombings. In 1955, she returned with family to Ottawa where she worked as a x-ray technician. She met her future husband on a bus transiting to a local ski hill; a proposal of marriage followed on a later ski trip. She married in 1959 residing in Ontario (Toronto, King City, Blue Mountains); Anne relocated to Winnipeg Manitoba in late 2023.

Anne was an active community member: a seamstress of parade, carnival, musical and even bicycle costumes; hospital auxiliary maker of tray favours; knitter of mitts for newborns. Anne became a multi-year, multi-discipline Special Olympics volunteer driver, coach, costumer and host. At age 70, she certified as Special Olympics Track & Field coach, which required her to run a 50m ‘dash’.

Anne was nature loving and creative. She passionately pursued perennial and flowering shrub gardening. She arranged dried, pressed or fresh-cut flowers, often harvested from her own garden. She made artistic flower arrangements for weddings, funerals, graduations, church service and special celebrations for three decades. She also enjoyed garden touring and driving excursions.

She was a founding member of the Milne House Garden Club (Toronto) and briefly taught flower arranging in their workshop, ‘despite the commute’ from King City. (The commute from Blue Mountains to Milne House in later years proved more challenging). After a wedding gift membership to Toronto Ski Club (TSC) from her husband, a life membership was bestowed upon her in 2019. She also was a founding member of Probus Harbourlands (Collingwood) and bestowed a life membership at achieving her 90th year. These clubs were a social highlight for Anne in the last few years.

The family wishes to recognize the caring professional staff of Grace Hospital (Winnipeg).
