Thomas “Tom” Walter Edlund

June 4, 1960 - April 2, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas Walter Edlund , announce his sudden passing on April 2nd, 2023 at St. Boniface hospital after a series of heart complications.  Tom was born June 4, 1960

Tom was predeceased by his father Leonard R. (Bob) and is survived by his mother Loretta, his brothers Robert (Traci), David (Vicki), Garry (Lynne) and their children Mike (Vicky), Amanda (Jay), Heather (Matt), Neil (Lisa), Nicole (Allen), Jennifer, and families.  Tom is also survived by his Uncle Bill, Aunts; Cindi, Paulie and Marlene, and also numerous cousins.

Tom had a self-described idyllic childhood roaming the woods and waters near the family home on the Airport Road and later Parkland Resort on Longbow Lake. There were always brothers, neighbourhood friends and cousins, with which to share sporting activities and adventures.

Tom was a quiet and hardworking man who earned his journeyman carpentry ticket at a young age after working side by side with his father in the construction trade. He later took pride in working with his nephews Mike and Neil on numerous carpentry projects. Tom was always ready to pitch in and help his brothers and friends ‘pour a slab’ or ‘throw on some shingles’.  His wealth of skill and knowledge was always welcome (and often needed).

Tom was a picker and had an artist’s eye and skill for anything unusual, or in need of work, or reminiscent of his memories growing up. He loved antiques and unusual pieces of wood and could see value in old boats, snowmobiles, and trucks.

Tom had a fierce loyalty to family and friends and never had an unkind word about others.  Lately, Tom had been the #1 fan at his great-nephew, Cam’s hockey games.  Around a campfire, watching the rain cloud’s part at Scotties beach, tipping a few at the Kenwood, family dinners and card games with friends would be his favorite places. Kurt, Fred, Carl, Tim, Arno, and Al were a few buddies (others not mentioned know who you are).

Please share a memory and a toast to Tom.

You will be missed Tom.  Rest in Peace.

Cremation has taken place.  A celebration of Tom’s life will be planned in the summer of 2023, with more details to be posted to the online obituary of Miner and News.
