Sharon Doreen Monkhouse

(nee Reed)

May 26, 1947 - June 14, 2023

"Do you have time for a cup of tea?", Mom would often ask.

Sharon (my Mom) was born and raised in Friendly Manitoba, right here in Winnipeg.

After High School, Mom joined the Air Force to see the world, and met Joe (Dad).

Sharon and Joe spent over 55 years of marriage together, until her last breathe, with Dad at her side and holding her hand.

They travelled down a path that saw them build a family together in many locations across Canada, including Clinton, London, Chatham, Kingston, Ottawa, Moose Jaw and back to Winnipeg.

Mom retired from MTS and hasn't slowed down in the last 10 years.

She enjoyed spending time volunteering, golfing, reading mysteries, solving puzzles, listening to music or spending family fun days at the cabin.

Mom will forever be remembered by her loving family: her children Robin,(James), Stroy, and Stan,(Penny). Grandchildren, Kimbal, (Brett), James Jr., Kristen, (Daniel), Damian, Julia, Stanley, Justiz, Cassie, Kris and Great-Grandchild Abigail, along with special close friends Arlene and Wayne, and her brother Ken and nieces and nephews.

Sharon had the heart of a volunteer, always pitching in to help any cause that needed it, wither it be hockey fundraising or Girl Scout Cookies or Bingos. She enjoyed helping others.

Mom was with MTS Volunteers and kept busy helping make the Heart Shaped Pillows for St. Boniface Hospital Post-Op Heart Patients, she even did this at home, while going through treatments and surgeries herself.

Sharon would often say, "No sense feeling sorry for myself, there are people out there in worse shape than me, and I gotta get moving."

Thank you to The MTS Volunteers for the years of comradery and support for Mom.

Mom had a true passion for sports, and loved to keep active.

For Mom there were two seasons in Winnipeg, Winter and Golf Season.

She was an avid golfer, loved all things golfing. When she was shopping for a car she had to have one big enough to haul her clubs around in.(thanks Peter)

Sharon was so upset when the doctors told her one of the many surgeries she was having would be scheduled in Spring. "There goes my Golf Season."

Some of her happiest times were spent enjoying a round with the Thursday Morning Ladies Golf League.

Mom has touched many lives in that positive and uplifting way that she had, even with the smallest thoughtful gestures to strangers she met.

We can pay tribute to her by carrying on in her place, showing others how we can be as selfless and genuine and care for each other, just as she would have.

As we move forward, and share stories about Mom, and remember her with a smile, we can spread the joy for life that she embodied.

Please remember to stop for that cup of tea.

We would like to thank the Healthcare Professionals we met along Mom's journey.

The compassion and encouragement along the way from Cancer Care Manitoba, and Eva, the staff at HSC and Concordia Hospital, Janine and the rock star team at Grace Hospice.

Sharon's Celebration of Life, come and go gathering will be held at Anavets, 3584 Portage Ave., on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 12 Noon - 4:00 pm.

Go in peace.
