Mirko was born and raised in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he lived with his wife, Gordana, his two sons, Deni and Dejan, as well as numerous family and friends. After the passing of his wife in November of 2003, Mirko moved in May of 2008 to Canada to live with his sons. Mirko was characterized by a love of lifeand everything current: news, sport, and the weather. He was an eternal optimist who had a positive outlook and hope for the future; he was inquisitive, enjoyed history and learning the origin of words, and he was a master chess player. He loved adventure and cherished his time travelling across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa as an agronomist, as well as his time at the Belgium World Expo in 1958. In Canada he spent his time tirelessly learning English and attending classes, walking for hours every day no matter the season, and spending time with his family.

The family especially thanks WRHA Palliative Care and ACCESS Fort Garry health care team.
