Carole Ann Wilma Straub

(nee Smith / formerly Rowswell)

July 2, 1940 - May 25, 2023

With deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mom, nana, sister and friend, Carole Straub, on Thursday May 25, 2023 at the age of 82.

She will be cherished and deeply missed by her son Garth and daughter Lisa (Ron), grandchildren Blake, Scott (Danielle), Kelli, Alex, Kyle, Sophie and Vanessa.  She was predeceased by her second husband Fred, her sister-in-law Marlene, and grandchild Sean.  She is survived by her brothers Barry, Ron & sister-in-law Linda and first husband Graeme (Helen).

Mom was born and raised in Winnipeg by her loving parents Doris and Jack who instilled family values and adventure. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, wife and friend.

Mom was a fun person who loved to play games, had a master vocabulary, enjoyed the beach, camping, walks, hiking, exercise class, her dogs and having flowers around her.  She travelled through Europe and to hot destinations; she had a very full social life with her friends/ladies/travel groups; attended church; monthly games night with her siblings, and was always up to an adventure and a glass of wine.  Mom was a list maker who was incredibly organized and efficient in completing her tasks.

Nana was a dedicated grandmother always chauffeuring to activities or attending special events. She was a classy lady, most often had a smile and was dressed up in matching accessories.  Mom/Nana was a great listener and advisor and had a very close bond with both her children and her grandchildren.

Carole’s working career started out at Eaton’s and after her children were older she started her own Word processing company and then moved on to attain her commercial real estate license and thereafter became a broker in the real estate field.

Her strength, independence, support, gracefulness and loving manner leaves a legacy for her whole family – she is an example of what one would want a mother and matriarch to be.

A memorial service will be held at the Parish of St. Timothy, 135 John Forsyth Rd. at 11:00 am Thursday June 1, 2023, with private family internment of ashes at the St. Vital Cemetery later that afternoon.

If friends so desire, a donation may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

You will always be loved and remembered, rest in peace …
