Aliki Ariadni Travlou
May 8, 1941 - August 26, 2024
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Aliki Ariadni Travlou, aged 83, on August 26, 2024, at Deer Lodge in Winnipeg, MB. Born in Athens, Greece, on May 8, 1941, Aliki was a vivacious and spirited woman whose life embodied strength, resilience, and boundless passion.
Aliki was preceded in death by her parents, Haralambos and Veroniki Travlou; her beloved brother, Kostandinos; and her great-grandchild, Anastasia.
She is survived by her devoted daughters Ekaterine, Xarula Michelle, Monica (Rob), and Veronika (Andreas); her brother Stephanos; her grandchildren Michael, Stephanie, Steven (Nicole), Alexander (Sam), and Stavros (Julie); and her great-grandchildren Isabelle, Onika, and Jacob.
A remarkable individual, Aliki was the epitome of vitality and adventure. Known for her ability to light up any room, she was always the life of the party and the embodiment of the Greek word “Kefi,” radiating zest for life. Her adventurous spirit took her across the globe, traveling extensively through Europe, Egypt, Tanzania, Kenya, Australia, Brazil, Russia, Mexico, and many other places across Canada and the US. Fluent in five languages, she embraced a cosmopolitan outlook that enriched her life and the lives of those around her.
Aliki’s passion extended deeply into her family life. She taught her daughters the importance of overcoming challenges with emotional, mental, and physical strength. She instilled in them values of independence and an entrepreneurial spirit, serving as a true role model. Her zest for life and drive to live fully were contagious, inspiring all who knew her to embrace their own adventures and pursue their dreams.
Before 2018, when health challenges arose, Aliki was an active and vibrant member of her community, dedicating much of her time to Greek Orthodox churches. Her boundless selflessness and friendly smile will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. We’d like to offer a special acknowledgement to Veronika her youngest daughter and Andreas (spouse) for their tireless efforts in caring for Aliki in her last few years of life.
A service to honor her extraordinary life will be held on September 3, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Ave, Winnipeg. Following the service, there will be a procession and burial at Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Ave, followed by Refreshments at Saint Demetrios Church after the burial, where we will continue to celebrate and remember the remarkable life of Aliki Ariadni Travlou.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Philoptochos Society or a charity of your choice in Aliki’s memory. May her adventurous spirit and loving legacy continue to inspire us all.
