Wayne Oliver Louis Barron

August 4, 1950 - December 22, 2023

Wayne Oliver Louis Barron of Winnipeg, MB passed away suddenly, but peacefully, with family by his side, at the age of 73, at Seven Oaks Hospital. He was predeceased by his grandparents Herb and May Stapleton, parents Isabel Stapleton and Tony Barron, stepfather Bud Stein, and sister Jeanette Barron.

Wayne is survived by his partner of nearly twenty years, Linda Masinda, his sons, Jason Barron and David Barron, his stepchildren, Joyce Coady (JW), Tony Masinda, and Jeannette Bodnar (Marko), his grandchildren Michael Budd (Michelle), Christopher Budd (Ashley), Courtney Slimmon (Kyle), Bryson Coady, Lars Bodnar, and Malikie Bodnar, and his great-grandchildren Jaxon Budd, Nash Budd, and Adalyn Slimmon.

He also leaves his siblings, Verna Benka (Ed), Lorraine Bannon, Roger Stein (Mary), and Darlene Veinot, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Wayne was born on August 04, 1950, on his grandparent’s farm in Fisherton Manitoba. His early years were spent connecting to nature on the farm where many fond memories were made. He later moved to Thunder Bay, but his heart always belonged to his home on the farm.

Following an adventurous, and sometimes rebellious adolescence, he returned to Manitoba to live with his grandparents where he grew and developed a strong work ethic and the solid character and values which he carried throughout his life.

He eventually welcomed his sons Jason and David into the world and was a proud and present solitary parent. He bought a home in Winnipeg, where he raised his children and hosted family for Bomber games and barbecues. His connection to his community and neighbours was a testament to his capacity to care for those around him.

After raising his children, he eventually met his partner Linda at Canada Post where they both worked. Wayne found an immediate and natural fit into Linda’s family and was deeply loved and welcomed.

Wayne had a love for animals. Over the years he cared for numerous pets, however, he seemed to have a soul connection with his cats Squeaky and Fluffy. Wayne is perhaps most strongly remembered for his beautiful garden, a magical oasis that reflected years of knowledge, patience, skill, and a harmonious relationship with nature. When not in the garden, Wayne could be found strumming his guitar or listening to music. He loved technology and would revel in teaching others about the latest gadgets.

In their years together, Wayne and Linda loved to travel together. When travel wasn’t possible, Wayne would research and visit places through books and the internet. He could often be found watching a YouTube channel from across the world and had a knack for drawing others into his latest obsessions.

Wayne was a phenomenal grandfather. His artist’s heart and epic imagination made him the perfect playmate for grandchildren and great grandchildren, who would listen intently to his “big fish” stories and serve as co-conspirators with inside jokes. Wayne would find any opportunity he could to share, with beaming pride, a story about any one of his (great) grandchildren.

In the most recent years Wayne and Linda spent many afternoons traveling with close friends throughout Manitoba, exploring small towns through restaurants and visitor attractions, as though tourists in their own province. They also looked forward to visiting family and friends, whenever possible, in Manitoba, Thunder Bay, and beyond. Wayne loved driving and looked forward to their many road trips.

The scope of Wayne’s life, as a partner, father, friend, grandfather, sibling, musician, artist, gardener, and so much more, cannot be captured in a few brief paragraphs. The imprint he made on the lives around him will last indefinitely.

The family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Health Centre and Seven Oaks hospital, as well as his cousin James and Aunt Iris who made regular visits during his time at various hospitals.

A private Celebration of Life will be held in summer for close friends and family.
