Walter Phillip Wolfe
June 23, 1935 - March 29, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our father, papa and great-papa, Walter Wolfe at the age of 89 on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at his residence.
Remaining to forever cherish his memory is his daughter Kim (Mike), son Kerry (Margaret) and eight dearly loved grandchildren, Jordan (Aliah), Megan, Lexie (Matt), Cody, Cassidy (Mitch), Riley, Tayah and Myah and an adored great-grandson Dane. Also mourning his loss is sister Erna Kretchman, niece Lori Johnson and nephew Eric Kretchman.
Dad was predeceased by his wife Arlene (nee McPhail), daughter Heather Steele, parents Walter and Margaret Wolfe.
Dad was born in Brandon, Manitoba on June 23, 1935. After completing high school, Dad enrolled at the University of Manitoba and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. He met his wife Arlene at a local dance and they married on September 20, 1958. After a brief time in Brandon, the family moved to Winnipeg in 1963, purchasing a home in the Crestview area. Dad resided there until 2023 and then moved to The Parkway retirement community.
In the early 80s, Dad decided to branch out on his own and opened up his own consulting engineering firm. Over a 60 year career, he provided excellent professional services to many long-term clients. His work was incredibly important to him as evidenced by his arrival at the office by 6 a.m. daily and taking a sick day was unheard of.
Dad and Mom traveled extensively with their travel trailer and eventually found a permanent spot at Mordens Meadows where Dad took pride in tending to his vegetable garden. His passion for travel continued throughout his life taking him and Mom all over the United States, where attending concerts and visiting tourist attractions kept them busy. After Mom passed away in 2015, Dad continued his travels accompanied by his children and grandchildren.
One of Dad’s greatest joys in life was spending time with his grandchildren and grand pups Bindi and Cash. He could always be counted on to attend the many activities that his grandchildren were involved in.
Dad was an avid reader enjoying genres such as autobiographies, history, true crime and thrillers, as well as the daily newspaper. He had a unique sense of humor, seldom complained and was a kind and generous man.
Dad was a longtime member of the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club and served as President from 1982-1983. As an avid sports fan, Dad enjoyed watching football, baseball, hockey and curling on TV, often attending live sporting events while travelling.
A private family interment and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dad’s memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Wpg, MB, R3T 0R3.
