Rosemary Blackmon

(nee Bullas)

September 16, 1946 - September 22, 2023

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Rosemary Blackmon at the St. Boniface Hospital on Sept. 22, 2023.

Predeceased by her parents Walter and Lily Bullas, and her sister Joan Phillips.

Rosemary is lovingly remembered by her husband Don after a joyful 52 years of marriage, son Kent and his wife Sandy, grandson Jacob and wife Heather all of Winnipeg. She also leaves behind her brother John and wife Sally of Gabriola Island BC; brother in-law Ed Phillips of Parksville BC; nephews and nieces Neil Bryan (Kerri), Marie Goddard (Barry), David Bullas (Michelle), Brian Bullas (Natasha), James Bullas (Rebecca), Amanda Burke (Adam), Melanie Conklin (Brent), David Blackmon (Michelle) and Michael Blackmon.

Rosemary was born in Cannock, England.  In 1958 her parents, along with Rosemary who was 11 and John who was 9, emigrated to Canada to join older sister Joan who had emigrated the year before.  They all settled in Winnipeg. Rosemary attended Glenwood Junior High and graduated from Glenlawn Collegiate.  She trained as a paralegal and was a devoted worker at Tupper, Adams & Co. in Winnipeg and later at David Moore & Assoc. in Selkirk, Manitoba.

Rosemary met Don in 1970 and they married in 1971.  They lived in St. Vital until retirement.  In 1988 they bought a lot at Hillside Beach and soon began construction of the cottage that became their permanent home in 1999.   In June 2022 the time came to move back to Winnipeg.

Rosemary and Don’s home was a hub for many remembered family gatherings.  Rose loved her kitchen, cooking, and bringing people together, providing lavish spreads for family and friends.  She was very proud of her home and was meticulous about keeping it clean (especially her windows).  Family legend has it that she wore out the laminate on the kitchen counter tops with her constant wiping.  Rose was a selfless caregiver who took great joy in helping others and seeing her family happy and well. She always looked forward to the monthly weekend sleepovers with Jacob, Kent and Sandy. Don and Rosemary’s life included many beloved pets; Puddles, Hobbit, Nala, Thorton, Nora and Lily.

Rosemary was a kind and loving person. She loved listening and singing along to music as she completed her daily tasks. She loved the quiet lake life and spent many hours out in her beautiful gardens. She was a voracious reader who enjoyed travelling, going to the casino, spoiling her family, and going out for dinner.  Christmas was her favourite holiday celebration and she enjoyed spending a full day decorating her tree.  Every ornament had its place.  She was a great listener who loved to talk on the phone and every conversation lasted at least an hour and was full of laughter.

A private celebration of life has already taken place.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Rosemary to the Siloam Mission.
