Mary Helen Gladish

February 11, 1931 - July 22, 2022

It is with great sadness that our mother, Mary Helen Gladish passed away peacefully on July 22, 2022, at the age of 91 years. She resided at River Park Gardens.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Louis Paul Gladish on February 23, 2009. They were married for 56 years. Mary will be greatly missed by her children: Louise (Keith) Myshkowsky, Daniel (Louan) Gladish and Carol (Norman) Fossheim. She was loved dearly and will be missed by her grandchildren: Daniel (Kelly), Dana (Sam), & Angela; Jeremy (Elise), Kiara & Cameron; Stephanie, Amy (Ross) & Michael (Mandee). She has a beautiful great grandchild, Levi of 2 years old (Daniel & Kelly).

Mary was born in Garson, MB to her parents Karolina “Bertha” (nee Wilczynska) & Boleslaw (Leslie) Zygarliski. She is survived by her sisters Jeanie, Victoria, Frances & Florence, and brothers Stanley & Ted. She is predeceased by her siblings: John, Victor, Edmund, Lloyd & Ted.

She started to work in Winnipeg at the early age of 16, sewing to help support her family. She worked for National Cloak, Sterling Stall and Goldberg Bros. She was so fast and efficient they didn’t wish to lose her as an employee. They were happy to provide her with an industrial machine and allow her to work from home & care for her children. Mom was a dedicated & active member of the Catholic Women’s League at St. Andrew Bobola Church for many years; happy to work quietly behind the scenes, baking, making perogies, creating center pieces for the church teas & either knitting or crocheting to help with fundraising.

She loved to sew; she was an amazing seamstress & cook. She was always sharing the food she made. The aromas from her kitchen were amazing. She loved her time at their cottage, planting flowers and maintaining the beautiful landscape which they created. She also loved caring for her grandchildren at home or the cottage. Mom taught us all to be loyal, truthful, hardworking, dedicated, and above all, to keep God in our lives who would guide us in all things.

Our family would like to express our gratitude to the River Park Gardens nursing home staff for their compassionate & loving care for our mom.

Celebrations are planned for Friday, August 12th at St. Andrew Bobola Church, 541 Marion Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Prayers will commence at 10:00 am followed immediately by a Christian Mass at 10:30am. Fr. Walery Bykowski presiding. Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Cemetery, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd.
Mom & grandma, you will remain in our prayers, hearts and memories forever.
