Judith “Judy” Ann Kaprowy

(nee Almdal)

May 30, 1949 - April 17, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Judith (Judy) Kaprowy on April 17, 2023.

Judy is survived by her daughter Kerri, son-in-law Jason, son Geoffrey, and grandsons, Josh and Seth. She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Dr. Richard Kaprowy, and her parents, James and Joyce Almdal. Judy is also survived by her brother Ron (Colleen), sister Wendy, and her nieces and nephew. Judy was truly blessed to find love again with Blaine Bruce for the past six and a half years and together they had a wonderful companionship.

Born in Edmonton on May 30, 1949, Judy moved around with her father’s career in the Canadian Armed Forces. They had many adventures as they travelled and lived in cities and towns throughout Europe and Canada.

Judy located to Winnipeg after finishing high school in Rivers, MB. She graduated from St. Boniface School of Nursing in 1970 and began a long and distinguished career in health care. A woman of drive with a passion for challenge, she achieved an RN, BN, and Masters in nursing. Beginning her career as a nurse clinician, Judy moved on to be an educator, Director of Medical Nursing, Program Director for Renal, and then finishing her career as Program Director of Medicine for the WRHA. Judy was responsible for the delivery and innovation of many Medicine Programs in Winnipeg.

Aside from her many professional accomplishments, Judy was also involved in various charitable organizations: Junior League, the Kidney Foundation of Manitoba and the Winnipeg Art Gallery to name a few.

To those who knew Judy, she was often described as a ray of sunlight. Kind, open hearted with a wonderful personality and a passion for life. She never said no to an adventure whether it was sailing, hiking, going on a safari in Africa, or climbing icebergs in Alaska. She made incredible memories with her two grandsons travelling with them to Peru and Japan. Judy loved road trips around the province of Manitoba and always made sure to plan a route around a Home Hardware store!

What made her most happy was spending time with her loved ones at the cottage in Beaconia and travelling to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

It is extremely hard to say goodbye to our mother and grandmother, but we must let her go. We will miss her, think of her often and live our lives in a way as to respect her memory so that she can live on in spirit.

A special thanks to Dr. Harwood-Jones, Dr. Robinson and the Oncology team at CancerCare Manitoba and Dr. Hartley and all the nurses and aides at the Grace Hospital Hospice. What an amazing team filled with kindness, love and support.

A celebration of Judy’s life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at The Gates, 6945 Roblin Blvd. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Grace Hospital Hospice or to the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
