Glen Eugene Bynkoski
February 10, 1960 - January 3, 2023
In the early hours of January the 3rd , Glen Bynkoski passed away peacefully at the age of 62 years.
Beloved husband, son, father, brother, and especially Papa, he was loved and will be greatly missed.
Glen built his life around family, and loved nothing more than playing with his grandchildren on the floor, a hand of cards on a warm day, a quiet evening with his beloved wife Jennifer, or sleeping soundly on a mattress that was never more than two years old.
Married young to his sweetheart, Glen and Jennifer would nurture a love that only grew with age. None more devoted; they were a team. Countless nights on the road and cold winter days would be endured for the fleeting weeks of travel enjoyed yearly - more than the sun or sand, it was their time together that Glen loved, although he would tell you the beaches didn’t hurt.
As a father to two, and Papa to three; Glen shone. His pride and joy sprang from the laughter he brought to his family. It wasn’t just that he spoiled them all with toys and games and tricks, he gave his energy, enthusiasm and love. Board games, scavenger hunts, scary stories, and card games (he liked cards best when just a little bit was at stake) He wanted to play, he wanted to show his children and grandchildren that there was nowhere else he would have rather been.
Glen was a thoughtful son who made the drive to Rainy River as much as he was able; bringing frozen meals for his mother, a list of chores to accomplish at the house, and mostly true stories to tell over dinner. Glen called his mother every day to check in, and if once in a blue moon he forgot to call, it was only because he had booked an extra early flight for the next morning.
If you spoke with Glen, then you were his friend. He loved to talk with people, to get to know them, and if at all possible, to beat them at a game of crib. He was funny, charismatic, and he genuinely cared about the people he met. Glen delighted in giving trinkets and gifts, often travelling with a suitcase half full of flashlights for the security guards, cars and dolls for everyone's kids, and more often than not, a little extra money for those that might benefit. While thrifting, his mind was always on high alert for small treasures that would bring a smile to someone he knew.
Glen was a connoisseur of snacks and treats. He was tireless in his pursuit of unblemished bananas, the softest cookies, the crispist chips, or the freshest banana bread (though he didn’t have to look far for the best banana bread). While travelling Glen wanted to eat where the locals ate, and would drag Jennifer through a labyrinth of streets and alleys for that one taco truck that served the only very best food.
Glen gave freely and generously of his laughter, enthusiasm, and love. His memory will live on in the hearts of those that loved him. He is survived by his wife Jennifer, Mother Ruth, children Stacey and Geoffrey and their families, siblings Gary and Susan and their families, and countless friends. He was predeceased by his father Eugene and infant nephew Paul.
The family would like to thank the teams at Cancer Care and Palliative care as well as Dr. Shell, for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Cancer Care Manitoba.
