Errol Tapper
February 8, 1944 - March 11, 2025
Errol Tapper passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025 at Health Sciences Centre at the age of 81 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Lillian Tapper, and his beloved daughter Jody.
Errol is survived by his partner, Valerie, his daughter Jaime (Devin), brother Robert (Lesley) (nephew Elliot [Laura] and niece Meredith). He will be fondly remembered by neighbours and friends from River Heights, and summers spent at Winnipeg Beach, as well as colleagues from his equipment financing business.
Errol was born and raised in Winnipeg. He showed an early interest in figuring out how things worked. As a child he would dismantle mechanical objects around the house and then try to put them back together. This interest continued, and as an adult he tinkered with cars, gadgets, and home improvement projects. His nickname was Mr. Fix-it, as he was always available to help neighbours with repairs around the house.
He graduated from the University of North Dakota with a B. Sc. B.A. (Bachelor of Science in Business Administration) and began a career in accounting, achieving his CMA. He later started his own company, Classic Capital Inc., specializing in equipment financing.
Errol adored his two daughters, Jaime and Jody. When Jody was born with Cystic Fibrosis, he got involved in the local CF chapter in Mississauga, and later helped organize for Shinerama at the University of Manitoba. Errol was a loyal and caring friend who went out of his way to help those close to him. He loved spending summers with Valerie at Winnipeg Beach, where he owned a cottage for many years and a boat that earned him the nickname Capt’n T. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and trips with Valerie to Mexico and Florida. He loved animals and had many pets over the years, but especially cherished his cats in his later years. He will be greatly missed.
Thank you to the staff at the Shaftesbury Park Retirement Residences’ Boulevard unit, to Erin, and especially to his home care worker Bernadette Perez, who cared for and provided companionship to Errol over the last several months of his life.
Special thanks to the staff at Health Sciences Centre WRS2 for their compassionate care during Errol’s final days, and their kindness to our family during this difficult time.
