Christopher Allen Sobkowicz
June 12, 1953 - December 23, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Christopher Allen Sobkowicz, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Chris passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, demonstrating his characteristic determination, humility, and warrior spirit throughout.
Born on June 12, 1953, Chris was a man of deep passion and commitment. He was dedicated to advocating for the autonomy and inclusion of people with disabilities, leaving a legacy that will continue to inspire. Chris was a man of many interests, but above all, he cherished his family.
He was predeceased by his parents Stanley and Evon (nee Hudson).
Chris is lovingly remembered by his wife, Sherry Sobkowicz (née Cote), with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. Together, they raised two sons, Jaret (Kim) and Jordan (Kristin), who brought immense pride and joy to his life. Chris adored his six grandchildren, Sadie, Finn, Smith, Emily, Anna, and Julie, whose laughter and love brought light to his days.
He will also be deeply missed by his siblings, Frank (Kathleen), Susan (George), Dani, Lynne (Jim), Jeff and numerous nieces and nephews as well as his extended family, including his mother-in-law Lorraine Cote (Lucien) and Sherry’s siblings, Geraldine, Nicole, Barry (Margaret), Blaine (Cheryl), Rodney (Marilyn), and Myron (Judy). Chris was a cherished brother, uncle, mentor, and friend to many, and his loss leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care, Health Sciences Centre and Cancer Care Manitoba for their compassionate care during Chris’s journey.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Chris’s name to Manitoba Possible to provide opportunities for people with disabilities to experience the joy of play—something Chris held close to his heart.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Chris Sobkowicz will forever be remembered for his strength, his unwavering dedication to those he loved, and his impact on the lives of so many. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will always cherish the lessons he imparted and the love that he shared.
