Anthony “Tony” Walter Dziad
April 17, 1951 - April 24, 2023
Tony passed away peacefully at home on April 24, 2023 with family by his side while listening to Don Williams. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Marlene; his children Jesse (Josh) and Ashley (Corey); his siblings Joe, Trish and John (Karen); and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents Stanley and Maria Dziad and his two older sisters that passed away in Siberia, Russia.
Tony was the first in his family born in Canada and grew up in Arborg, Manitoba. At the age of 14, Tony left home and moved in with Oscar and Alice Gudmundson to help out on the farm. When he was 16, he moved to Winnipeg and started working for Kilgour & Linklater as an Instrument Technician for their surveying company. This job took him all over Manitoba, including many Northern Communities and as far away as Iqaluit and Baffin Island, Nunavut. After many years surveying, he switched careers and worked as a Sheet Metal Worker throughout Manitoba (Local 511) and Saskatchewan (Local 296) until he retired in 2018.
In 1974, Tony met Marlene and they were married in 1976. They bought a house in North Kildonan in Winnipeg in 1978, where they still reside. They travelled the world together with friends and family taking them to Hawaii, Cuba, Mexico, Florida, and the Dominican Republic. Tony was a family man and could often be found taking his children: tobogganing and skating in the winter; road tripping to Arborg singing along to Don Williams and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band; camping in the summer; or having bonfires in the back yard.
Tony was an avid hunter, however rarely came home with anything. He enjoyed beers with the boys at the Norvilla, coffee time at A & W, because he couldn’t pass up the use of a coupon, or getting a Mr. Big Nip from Salisbury House. Tony was the quietest of the family, however, was always the one with a joke to tell. His smile was infectious and his devious blue eyes would sparkle when he stumped you with a riddle.
Many thanks to Cancer Care Manitoba, the Palliative Care Program and the many friends and family that supported him along his journey.
